I have a confession…I had never heard of the term FUPA until two years ago during a group photo shoot. One of the models mentioned hers; it took me a minute to figure out what she was referring to. Then, after some extensive research I found out that FUPA stands for Fat Upper Pubic (or another five letter word I will not use here) Area. I’ve heard people call it a “front butt”; I call it a second belly. Anyway, according to many men it’s considered one of the sexiest body parts on a woman. Lately, I’ve seen many women stress their FUPAs in photos. What’s causing all this? I blame Beyoncé.
Now before the Beyhive come for me, when I say blame I do not mean negatively so hear me out. In the September 2018 issue of Vogue, Beyoncé shares how her body changed after giving birth to twins, and the importance of appreciating our bodies. In addition, she said until she decides to work out, “my little FUPA and I feel like we are meant to be”. Of course the media ran with it. Every news outlet around the world mentioned it; USA Today and Huffington Post were just a few media outlets that mentioned Beyonce’s statement. Twitter had a field day. I recently did a Google search on FUPA and the first thing that appeared in the search results was a definition from Urban Dictionary. Guess what showed up next? Beyoncé’s FUPA. The result after that? Beyoncé’s FUPA. And the result after that? You guessed it…Beyoncé’s FUPA.
I’m happy to see a body part many women despise about themselves being celebrated. However I’ll be honest; I thought it was a little weird at first. I’m used to breasts, butt, and legs being worshipped, but a FUPA? I have a FUPA and even though it’s not my favorite body part, I’m still the hottest thing since sliced bread. That doesn’t mean I’m going to expose it in front of the cameras, but I’ll definitely be the first one to yell, “You go girl!” to those that do, and mean it.
I would love to hear your thoughts about the FUPA phenomenon. Feel free to leave a comment below, or send me an email at info@janellesimmons.com. For the those that love FUPAs, the photo above is for you. The t-shirt can be ordered from Redbubble at this link. I am not affiliated with the company but the t-shirt definitely caught my eye.
I don’t care who thinks it’s not right, say it with me ladies, “FUPAs unite!”
Much love!
